Select color around an object then remove it for alpha (multiple layers)

Post#1 by Melanoxylon » 18 Apr 2021, 07:20

Hi !
Is there a way in GIMP to select a color around an object (black for example) then transform it into alpha (without making the black in the object alpha)
but for several layers/pic in once
maybe a plugin exist ?

Ofnuts has a plug-in ofn-layer-tiles.py available here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-t ... s/scripts/

With this plug-in you can combine all 72 layers into a single layer (grid of say 9x8 tiles each the size of a layer).

Now you can
1. Use the Fuzzy Select tool to select the black background. Clear it.
2. Grow the selection by 1 pixel.
3. Use the Color to Alpha with black. This will clear a black halo around the object.

Now use ofn-layer-tiles.py to split the single layer back into 72 layers.

The disadvantage of this method is that you loose the layer names. Not a problem if you haven't set them yet.
